1000 Cranes for a wish...
If someone, according to Japanese tradition, folds 1000 origami cranes his wish for health will come true. A wonderful idea ...
Because Yorick's motor skills are greatly reduced, he cannot fold cranes himself. Therefore, we asked everyone who feels involved with Yorick, in order to help us in our quest for a cure, to fold one or more cranes and send it to us. Together we hope to fold 1000 cranes!

The campaign succeeded !!!!!

You might think
otherwise if you look at the number of cranes that we received until January 20
(296), but we succeeded! We have received more than 1000 cranes.
On Saturday February 9th, a large box was delivered to us from an address far from our town. When we read the letter on top we became speechless:
Jelle, a great-nephew of Yorick had taken our letter about the crane folding campaign to school, and proposed in the craft class to start folding cranes for Yorick. Using the video on the website the class soon found out how to do it, and enthusiasticly went forth until they folded 1000 cranes !!!! (See the picture below, Jelle is the middle with the blue sweater)
Thank you so much Jelle, and all your classmates, for your help with our campaign!
And of course thanks to all our other friends, family and others involved who helped to make this campaign such a big success.
On the left, a picture of Yorick, with all the cranes we received so far. And there will be more, or so we have been told by several people. We love to see them come 'flying in'!

In early
November 2013, we presented part of the 2300 (!!) cranes to Dr. Kaplan, Dr. Pignoli and
Dr. Shore, the three leaders of the team from Pennsylvania who do the research
on FOP and are working hard to find a drug that can stop its disastrous effect.
We crafted 1000 birds - the magic number where your wish hopefully comes true - into a wonderful paper tapestry and took it with us to the IFOPA meeting in Florida, which was held in honor of the 25th anniversary of the organization.
After a small speech the mother of Yorick handed over the artwork to the doctors, who were greatly impressed. They thanked the many people in the Netherlands who helped to make it. Later, the work was given a beautiful place in the laboratory in Philadelphia, where employees are inspired by it every day knowing that we all hope for the wish to come true !!
